Javier Mariscal will be the author of the Argentona pitcher this year
The graphic designer, illustrator, furniture designer, painter, sculptor, filmmaker and ceramist Javier Mariscal will be the author of the 2024 pitcher, published by the Museu del Càntir d'Argentona
The Municipal Council of the Museu del Càntir has chosen Javier Mariscal (Valencia, 1950) as the author of the pitcher of the year 2024. Mariscal has accepted the proposal stating that he feels very honored to be part of the gallery of artists that since from 2016 they design the pitchers of the museum's author's collection.
Javier Mariscal is a multidisciplinary artist: graphic designer, illustrator, furniture designer, painter, sculptor, ceramist and filmmaker. He likes challenges and the latest is the 2024 author pitcher design.
Its beginnings go back to 1970, when it published its first comic strip in various publications of the time. In 1979, he managed to stand out in the sector with the design of the Bar cel ona logo, but he became popularly known in 1992, with the design of COBI, the mascot of the Barcelona Olympic Games.
He has illustrated several covers of the New Yorker, he has designed graphic identities such as that of the Barcelona Zoo and the 32nd edition of the America's Cup, he has created small-format works for different brands, but also large-format works such as the exterior of the Glòries Shopping Center in Barcelona, a large-format sculpture in the courtyard of the Río Hortega Hospital or the Hotel Domine in Bilbao.
His work is in several public and private collections: MOMA, Center Pompidou, Victoria & Albert Museum, Museu del Disseny de Barcelona, IVAM, MNAC and MACBA, among others.
But his career does not end there, he has also made cinematic collaborations with Pedro Almodóvar and Fernando Trueba.
The renowned designer received the National Design Award in 1999 and became an honorary member of the Royal Design Industry in 2006.
The pitcher will be presented publicly in an information session at the Museu del Càntir during the month of June, which will be reported in due course, and will be put on sale during the Argillà Argentona 2024 fair and the 74th Festival of the Pitcher (Festa del Càntir).
