The town of Argentona, near Barcelona, Spain, is going to organize the ARGILLÀ ARGENTONA - INTERNATIONAL CERAMIC FESTIVAL next 5, 6 and 7 July.

It is an open air market fair of traditional pottery and artistic ceramics, with a long tradition. It is one of most important ceramic fairs in Spain. Last year it was visited for about 30.000 people from Barcelona, Catalonia and Spain. Many cultural activities around ceramics are organized: exhibitions of contemporary ceramics, ceramic workshops, raku firing, pottery demonstrations, etc.

Argillà Argentona makes a change of course in this edition. It is not a radical or sudden change, but an evolution of what has been until now. From a fair it evolves into a festival. That is to say: it goes from emphasizing commercial activity to emphasizing cultural and artistic activity. The commercial part will continue to exist and, in fact, will occupy the entire central axis of the event, with more than 60 stalls selling ceramics from various countries in Europe and North Africa.

The main change in this year's edition is the incorporation of mud and fire shows on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as traditional dance and music shows at the opening ceremony on Friday afternoon. There will also be micro-exhibitions in four ceramic showcases on Carrer Gran, which will help give visibility to emerging or little-known authors, and two new exhibition spaces will be added: the stone hall of the Old Town Hall and the garden of the modernist house of Josep Puig y Cadafalch. At the same time, cultural activities that were already taking place are promoted, such as exhibitions at the Museu del Càntir, film shows about ceramics, guided tours of the museum and exhibitions, debates, participatory wheel and rakú workshops, as well as demonstrations of traditional pottery.

It is worth highlighting the performances of the company Animal Religion, with Fang; the company FemFoc, with Mind the hiatus; the contemporary ceramic artists who will exhibit this year: Eva Roučka (Museum), Pep Gómez (Casa Puig y Cadafalch) and Nuri Negre (Old Town Hall).

The guest country in the 2024 edition is the Czech Republic, which has high-quality ceramics but is still little known in our country. Among the artists who will visit us, it is worth mentioning Eva Roučka who will exhibit in the museum and give technical demonstrations in the Church Square. In this same space, six Czech artists who will come expressly to Argentona to participate in the event will sell their works.

The Argentona jug of the year 2024 is by Javier Mariscal, who wanted to give his personal vision of a centuries-old vessel such as the “botijo”, with its traditional wavy and far from symmetrical shapes. Furthermore, he is also the author of the poster, in which he wanted to pay tribute to the jugs of the authors who have preceded him. He is the designer with the greatest public projection of those who have so far participated in the design of the botijo, which will be sold at the price of 30 Euros.

Opening hours: Friday 5 pm to 10 pm / Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 10 pm (with a pause between 2 and 5 pm. for lunch).

More information on the website: www.argilla.cat, where exhibitors who attend the fair annually and who want to be part of the Argillà Argentona website are represented, with their work, as well as videos showing different aspects of the ceramist's trade. , such as a stew with the rakú technique, or traditional pottery demonstrations, a virtual visit to the museum and other activities that we will add year after year.
